Head of School’s Welcome

Every child and every family is one-of-a-kind. It is by understanding each particular family and child, that we can best guide a child’s learning. Signing your child up in a school like ours is the beginning of a growth journey for the whole family.

Our History

Founded in 2012 by a Spanish-American mother of twins, who wanted to create a learning environment with a unique personality in which children 3 to16 years old could be themselves, free of the notion that they have to be a certain way to have a place in this world. She wanted to create a place where students could experience every day that there are many ways to reach the same end, that experimentation, failures, collaboration, hard work and determination are what it takes to succeed. A place where success is defined by each person for him or herself. A place where children hear “yes,” rather than “no.”

About City Country School

City Country School is a small school that loves being small.

  • Being small permits us to take care of every detail.

  • Being small allows us to make lunch completely from scratch in our kitchen everyday using only fresh ingredients: nothing canned, powdered, prepared or packaged.

  • Being small permits every guide, master (of Aikido, Kitchen, Clay, Play, Music) and administrator to know every child and every parent in the school.

  • Being small means we are part of one another’s successes and share in one another’s challenges.

  • Being small means we can support one another.

  • We are small enough to create a shared value system.

  • We are small enough to be dynamic, to be nimble in response to changing circumstances, to consider all our families.

  • We are small enough for the children to feel it is theirs.

  • In this small school everyone’s talents have a place.

  • In this small school students know the teachers for many years. Adults are admired and trusted and there are many adults to turn to.

  • In this small school students feel safe to speak up.

  • In this small school shy students overcome their shyness.

  • In this small school it is impossible to fall through the cracks.

  • In this small school teachers can focus on guiding their students; they do not have to spend a lot of time redirecting “bad” behavior.

  • In this small school students can participate all the time.

  • This small school feels like an extended family.

A small school permits a flattened hierarchy of true collaboration.
